The Bespoke Process

It’s so exciting that you’re thinking of having a bespoke piece of jewellery made (and thank you for having a look around my website, it means the world!).

I know it can feel a bit overwhelming knowing where to start, so I’ve outlined the process below to help explain how it all works.

That said, every project is a little different, so if you have any questions at all, feel free to drop me an email at naomi@naomilangford.co.uk, I’d be happy to help!

1. Initial Enquiry & Chat

Once you’ve filled out the bespoke enquiry form or emailed me directly, I’ll be in touch to arrange a quick call or email exchange (whichever suits you best).
This is a relaxed first conversation and a chance for me to hear what you're dreaming up, whether it’s an engagement ring, an heirloom reset, or a sentimental gift. You can also ask me as many questions as you like and we’ll chat about your ideas, timeline and budget.

If the piece is a surprise (like a proposal or gift), I’m more than happy to keep communication discreet!

2. Design Mood Board & Sketches

Next, I’ll gather some visual inspiration(unless you have provided me with some already) this will also include potential gemstones, reference images and design ideas. Once we’re aligned on direction, I’ll create a few hand drawn sketches of your piece for us to review together. This is where the vision really starts to come top life and you can be as collaborative as you wish.

3. Stone Sourcing

If your piece includes diamonds or coloured gemstones, I’ll source a curated selection of beautiful stones that suit your design and budget.
Alternatively if you have a family heirloom or sentimental stone, I can design around it and give it a new lease of life.

4. Wax Model or CAD (If required)

For more detailed or structural designs, I can offer a wax model or CAD (computer-aided design) so you can preview the scale and proportions in 3D before we cast. This is the ideal stage for any last tweaks or adjustments.

5. Casting Your Piece

Once the final design is approved, your bespoke piece is cast here in the UK. I personally inspect and sign off on the casting before it moves into polishing and stone setting. If you’re interested in the behind-the-scenes process, I can share progress photos along the way so you can see your piece come to life!

6. Stone Setting & Finishing

Your cast piece is then sent to my specialist stone setter, who carefully sets each stone by hand. Any engraving or finishing touches — like satin/matte textures or high polish are done at this stage to bring the final design together. Again I oversee this whole stage and often spend a lot of time in the workshop.

7. Hallmarking

Once complete, your jewellery is hallmarked at the London Assay Office (a stamp of quality and authenticity required by UK law - this will also show my makers mark "NLJ”). It’s a small but important detail that marks your piece as something truly special. If no engraving is taking place I might choose this step straight after casting - depends on the design!

8. Delivery or Collection

The full process usually takes around 6–10 weeks, depending on the complexity of the design. Once your piece is finished, I’ll be in touch to arrange delivery or collection, whatever works best for you.

I offer secure worldwide delivery, and all jewellery is beautifully packaged and ready to be worn, gifted, or treasured.
